Meatbodies: "Creature Feature"

We've been a bit busy lately an unable to update as usual, but we expect to get back to normal after this Christmas. There is also a bit of shortage of great new tracks as we approach the end of the year, but this new one by Meatbodies hits all the right spots for us; a bit of garage and plenty of psychedelia all nicely mixed up in this fuzzy, powerful jam, "Creature Feature", the first teaser of a new album coming out  on  February 10th.

The Courtneys: "Silver Velvet"

Vancouver's The Courtneys put out a really great debut album back in 2013 that surprisingly flew under the radar. Now they are signed to legendary New Zealand's Flying Nun and they are set to release a new long player next February. " Silver Velvet" is the excellent and catchy fist single, a track that shows how good this girls do the 90's influenced guitar pop.

"Falling Down" is the first single from Happyness second long player, an album that will be out next spring. The British band, one of our favourites in the last couple of years, have evolved from the quasi slacker rock of their debut, to a fuller and richer sound and as this great track demonstrates, are now one of the finest guitar pop bands around.

Cigarretes After Sex, a Brooklyn band led by Greg Gonzalez, describe themselves as an ambient pop collective, and listening to their music, more specifically their new single "K", what we get is some mellow, hazy, beautiful and hypnotic indie pop. They are putting  out a full length album next year on Partisan records.

Swedish indie popsters The Mary Onettes, are back with "Juna" their first single in a long while, a song that is the centerpiece of an Oxford advertising campaign in Europe and has been produced by Dan Lissvik. It is a great track with  a very ethereal,  dream-pop feel that matches perfectly with their new label, Cascine.

Mainland are a Brooklyn based band whose new single "Permission Slip" sits somewhere in the middle of indie pop and alternative rock,, it's a great  catchy track with plenty of hooks and those infectious "oohs" and "uuhs" that will get stuck in your head for hours.

Another favourite from 2014 was Honeyblood's self titled debut, which will have the follow up next November with Babes Never Die, a record that judging by the advance singles, sees the Glaswegian duo return with a tighter, rockier sound. "Sea Hearts", the last one, is a  great, powerful and catchy fuzzy monster.

Portland's Eyelids, put out one of our favourite records of 2014 with their debut "854", showing that being such experienced musicians( the band features Decemberists' John Moen and Guided By Voices' Chris Slusarenko)is no joke. Now they are back with "Slow It Goes" a, great, lively and catchy new single  with their classic power pop feel, taken from a new Peter Buck produced lp to be released soon.

A combination of great guitar work, plenty of hooks and a catchy chorus, something that looks simple but is not, and this guys really achieve it on "An The Bubble Burst", their great new single.

Oakland based, Australian born, Hazel English has been putting out some great singles of dreamy, sun soaked pop, and some of them will be included in Never Going Home, her debut Ep for Marathon Artists, out October 9th. Boys: "Off To New York City"

Boys are a London quartet with their musical influences closer to the sounds of recent years Brooklyn bands rather than anything British. There is no surprise then, the fact that their new  and excellent single is called "Off To New York City" and is filled with that dream pop feeling, mixing smooth guitar lines with hazy vocals. The song is part of an Ep called American Dream, out next month.

Beach Slang seem to be, like Ultimate Painting, a prolific band when it comes to compose new material, as they have just announced their second lp A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings(coming September 23th) when barely a year has passed after the release of their debut album. "Punk's In a Discobar" is the first single and we find it to be one of the best, most energetic and urgent tracks released this year, a total blast.

Psychic Twin is Erin Fein's musical project, she put out a couple of great singles back in 2013 and now she is announcing his debut record, Strange Diary, for a September 9th release on Polyvinyl Records. "Lose Myself" is the first single from that upcoming debut and it's a great example of Erin's knack for writing dreamy electro pop songs that could resemble a mix between Grimes and Feist.

Wesley Fuller: "Runaway Renee"

Wesley Fuller, a singer and songwriter from Melbourne with a knack for 70's power pop and psicodelia is publishing his debut Ep later this week, a record called Melvista, whose first single and title track is one of the catchiest and best jams of the year. "Runaway Renee" is another excellent track from that work, agaij with that  Beatles meets Marc Bolan kind of feeling that works perfectly for the begining of the summer.

Field Mouse will release their second album, Episodic, on August 5, a record  fully composed by the five members of the band featuring collaborations from Sadie Dupuis(Speedy Ortiz), Allison Crutchfield(Waxahatche) and Joseph D'Agostino(Cymbals Eat Guitars). "The Mirror" is the first single and opening track, a great fast paced guitar pop jam, with that 90's vibe that calls to mind bands like the great Velocity Girl.

Night School: "Casanova"

Oakland trio Night School will release their debut album on June 17th, a record called "Blush" packed with some great Do-woop garage rock, a label they use to describe their music which is basically a good mix of 60's bands influences with 90's guitar indie rock. "Casanova" and "Last Disaster" are fine examples of how well they sound.

Tuns is a new project fronted by Chris Murphy of Sloan with Mike O' Neill of The Imbreds and Matt Murphy of Super Frienz and Flashing Lights. They are releasing a debut album later this summer and "Mind Over Matter" is the first advance, and as you would expect from such talented and experienced musicians is a great slab of classic rocking power pop.
